About

The Alien Tort Claims Act Blog is about 28 U.S.C. § 1350, a statute that originated with the Judiciary Act of 1789, the foundational legislation for most of our judicial branch. It states:

“The district courts shall have original jurisdiction of any civil action by an alien for a tort only, committed in violation of the law of nations or a treaty of the United States.”

Section 1350 also contains a related statute, the Torture Victim Protection Act. Expect to see TVPA news here as well.
